MORNING

A Kusa Treks van will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:30AM. You will have a 3.5 hour drive through incredible scenery that includes amazing views of mountains, local villages and farms. The drive will end at Soraypampa (12,460ft. / 3,800m.), which is the location of the first campsite for the Salkantay Trek. At Soraypampa you will enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by our chef and his staff.

After breakfast you will start the 1.5 hour hike to reach Humantay Lake (13,800ft. / 4,200m.). Your hike this morning will be primarily uphill through an incredible landscape full of local plants and animals. Your guide will pause every so often to explain the nature and history of the sites you pass during the quick hike. These breaks will also allow you to take pictures of the stunning, mountainous landscapes that surround you.

Once you reach the top of your hike, your efforts will be seriously rewarded, as you see the stunning turquoise waters of Humantay Lake. This. Place. Is. Gorgeous! Make sure you have plenty of storage on your phone or camera, as you’ll want to take a lot of pictures of the lake with the snow capped Humantay Mountain as the backdrop.

You will have 1-1.5 hours to explore this area, and, for the brave souls, you can even swim in the frigid waters of lake!

AFTERNOON/EVENING

Between 12 – 1PM you will begin your decent down the same path you came up, which typically does not take as long as the ascent up. Once you reach the bottom of the path, our Kusa Treks crew will have a delicious, warm lunch prepared for you.

After lunch you will get back in the van to start the return trip back to Cusco. Drop off at your hotel will be around 6 – 7PM.
