7 Lakes of Ausangate Hike (Full Day)

A scenic high-altitude circuit beneath Ausangate Glacier with a natural hot springs finale.

Why Choose the 7 Lakes of Ausangate Hike?

The 7 Lakes of Ausangate Hike takes you deep into the Cordillera Vilcanota in southern Peru, approximately 3 hours from Cusco. This full-day adventure begins in the Andean community of Pacchanta (4,200m), at the base of Ausangate Mountain (6,384m), the highest peak in the Cusco region.

Unlike the crowded Rainbow Mountain route, this trek follows a peaceful 10 km loop across high-altitude puna ecosystems. You will visit seven glacial lakes—Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha and more—each displaying unique mineral colors ranging from deep blue to bright turquoise and reddish tones.

The trail reaches approximately 4,800m but remains mostly gradual, making it ideal for acclimatized travelers who want dramatic alpine scenery without an extreme summit climb.

The experience ends at the Pacchanta Hot Springs (38–40°C), natural thermal waters facing the Ausangate Glacier.

This tour is ideal for:

  • Travelers already acclimatized to altitude

  • Nature lovers and photographers

  • Visitors seeking alternatives to crowded routes

  • High-altitude explorers who prefer scenic loops
