ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT WHAT'S INCLUDED
TRANSPORTATION: All transportation is included.
FOOD: All food is provided. In fact, we'll be hiking with a professional chef! Our chef and his staff will cook you some of the best meals you've ever eaten, and they'll do it in the middle of the Andes. Please notify our staff of any food allergies or restrictions and we will ensure that the food is prepared properly.
WATER: Your guides will supply all of the water you'll need on the trek. The water will first be boiled, then filtered and then cooled. You will need to bring a container for the water (Camelback, Nalgene, etc.), we recommend carrying at least 2L of water. Your water containers will be refilled at each meal.
PROFESSIONAL GUIDES: Kusa Treks strives for greatness and this starts and ends with our people. All of our trek leaders are locals to this region and studied Tourism and/or Archaeology at a University. They are all fluent in English and are passionate about their work. Trust me when I say, there is no better person to be on the Inca Trail with than a Kusa Treks guide, you will be in incredible hands.
PERMITS & TICKETS: Once you pay the trip deposit, we will purchase your permits for the Inca Trial and Machu Picchu. The government issues permits in your name, under your passport number, and for a specific time-frame; they cannot be changed once confirmed, which is why the initial deposit is non-refundable. We will also secure your train tickets and entrance tickets to Machu Picchu.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY: Alright, emergency sounds a bit dramatic. However, you can be confident in your Trek Leader. All of Kusa Trek's guides receive extensive First Aid training from a qualified and licensed physician, and we conduct mandatory review/training sessions twice a year. Your Trek Leader will carry a Hiking First Aid kit (including oxygen), and should the need arise we will get you off of the trail and to a medical facility as quickly and comfortably as possible.
Note: We have never had to evacuate a hiker.
HOTEL: This trek spends 1 night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes, which is the town directly below Machu Picchu. We provide a room at a 3-star hotel. Hotel Upgrade is available, but you will be charged the price difference.
WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED:
HIKING EQUIPMENT: As this trek spends one day hiking on the Inca Trail, "traditional" hiking equipment required for other treks, such as a sleeping bag, is not needed. However, we do suggest using Trekking Poles, which are available for rent for $10.
HUAYNA PICCHU (Wayna Picchu): Huayna Picchu is the pointy, tall mountain in the background of all the pictures of Machu Picchu. Tickets to climb it are available for travelers who wish to hike up an ancient staircase to the top of Machu Picchu's sister mountain. Hiking to the top of it provides adventurers with incredible, unique views of Machu Picchu. This secondary hike will have a 1-hour ascent, 15 minutes to take selfies and high-five at the top of the mountain, and then a 45-minute descent. FYI, the ascent and descent are pretty steep, but totally worth it!
NOTE: Tickets to ascend Huayna Picchu are limited, and are sold on a first-come-first-serve basis and can be reserved at the time of your trip booking.
VISTA DOME TRAIN: On the way back from Machu Picchu to Cusco, we will book tickets on a "regular" train, called the Exedition Train. However, there is a company that offers a train ride in a "Vista Dome Train" through the Sacred Valley. This train has glass walls and a glass ceiling, which provide panoramic views of the surrounding beautiful Andes mountain-side. Tickets include in-trip meals and entertainment.

We'll have another 2-hours by train to reach the starting mile marker of our trek. The reason we woke up before the sun will become apparent when we start our trek, as we will be one of the first groups on the Inca Trail, which will allow us to hike at our own pace and enjoy the beautiful views of the Andes.
Our hike begins with a soft climb next to the Urubama River, where we'll see the Chachabamba ruins, which is a stone altar that was used to worship various aspects of nature. After taking pictures and learning about this ancient site we will continue our hike by entering into a cloud forest.

We'll walk for another 3 hours and descend into the forest, you'll see beautiful waterfalls and encounter all types of wildlife (including some of the 100+ indigenous species of hummingbirds).

As we reach the conclusion of our hike we'll approach the Inti Punku (Sun Gate), by climbing 60 steep stone steps (alliteration is fun). From our vantage point you will observe the wonder that is Machu Picchu. After taking pictures, high fiveing and trying to find service to post pictures and hashtags we'll walk another 45 minutes down to Machu Picchu.
We'll walk down to the famous vantage point that offers the most well-known view of Machu Picchu. We'll reach this point just as the sun begins to set behind Machu Picchu, which will provide an incredible scene. After watching the sunset we'll catch a 15-minute bus ride to Aguas Calientes, which is the town directly below Machu Picchu and where we'll enjoy dinner and hotel accommodations.
We'll rest and your guides will go over the plans for tomorrow, there are natural hot springs nearby where you can relax and rest from hiking. We will stay overnight in the Vioajeros Hotel (or something similar depending on availability).

You will experience a professionally guided tour from your guide, who is fluent in English and very knowledgeable in Machu Picchu and its wonders. You'll see the Royal Mausoleum, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Main Temple, the Sacred Plaza, The Intihuatana, fountains and much more, the guided tour will last 2-3 hours.

LARES & INCA TRAIL
Just got back a couple weeks ago from the 4 day LARES/INCA trail trek and had an absolutely amazing time! It ended up being a private tour with two other friends and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Michael, our contact back in the states, made planning effortless. He was always available for questions and made sure everything was ready to go once we arrived in Peru. Our guide, Eric, was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable about everywhere we visited and could tell he was passionate and truly cared about everything he taught us. He was also great about maintaining a sustainable trekking pace since none of us were used to the altitude. Truly blown away by the food from our chef during the hike and all the hard work our porter did for us! Camp was always set up and ready to go once we arrived. Food was delicious! Overall would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Peru to use Kusa Treks! Only wish we had done our other tours through them as well!
